As a student, keeping your mind active is very important because it’s the most important tool you use when studying. An active brain is not likely to suffer from memory loss or Alzheimer’s disease. A sharp brain will boost your energy and elevate your moods throughout your life.

Psychologists and experts have found out that intelligence is made up of two components namely crystalline and fluid. Fluid intelligence is necessary for learning new things. Crystalline intelligence is necessary for developing skills.

Enhancing these two components will increase your concentration and brainpower. So, how can you enhance them? Today, we will discuss four activities you can perform to keep your brain sharp.

1.      Play challenging games

During your spare time, play games that challenge your mind. Engaging in such games not only boosts your mood but also enhance your memory and improves learning. Games such as puzzles, strategy games like chess, card games and crosswords to name a few will improve your concentration and brainpower in the long run.

If you’ve paid attention, you’ll notice the amount of time intelligent students spend playing challenging mind games. It always works!

2.      Read good books

Reading to the mind is like exercise to the body. People who don’t exercise regularly feel tired, weak and sluggish. They are also likely to get infections and diseases. On the other hand, people who exercise regularly are energetic, lively and healthy.

It’s not easy for such people to get infections or diseases. And so is the mind which is exercised regularly through reading. Reading improves memory and helps in solving problems. Novels and fiction books are good but they just entertain you in the moment. A good book is one that helps you think about your life and your future because you won’t be a student forever. Reading good books improves your mind and your life as a whole.

3.      Exercise regularly

Students who exercise regularly have lower stress levels compared to their counterparts who don’t exercise at all. A person with lower stress levels is likely to focus on a particular task until its completion compared to a person who is stressed out.

Exercising makes your blood circulate faster all over your body. This means that more oxygen is carried around your body and this improves your performance. Students who exercise regularly are likely to complete tasks because of their endurance. Before making important decisions, just go out and jog for a couple of minutes. When you get back, your mind will be clear and you’ll make the right decision.  

4.      Listen to music

After a long day at school, you are likely come back home feeling tired and stressed out. What can you do to feel better? Listen to music! Music is medicine to the soul. Students who listen to music are more relaxed and happy compared to those who don’t.

Listening to music enhances your emotional intelligence. Music enhances your creativity and memory. Some students listen to music when they are studying because it improves their concentration. Listen to your favorite music anytime you feel tired or frustrated. You’ll be amazed by the results.
